Washington D.C. Civic Engagement Study Tour
July 21 - 25, 2008

Participate in this 1 credit hour undergraduate course exploring civic engagement in the United States through tours, speakers, elected official/civic leaders, and community service in Washington D.C.

Cost

$350. That price includes housing and transportation costs for the week as well as admittance to any tours. Participants will also be expected to arrange and pay for their own transportation to and from Washington DC as well as bring money for meals and souvenirs. Participants will also have to pay for tuition. Payment Schedule: Application fee - $20, April 30 - $80, June 1 - $125, July 1 - $125

Who is allowed to go on the trip?
Any ISU undergraduate student currently enrolled in Spring 2008 classes and returning for Fall 2008 semester.

How many student will be accepted for this program?
20

What if unforeseen circumstances arise and I am forced to cancel my participation?
The planning committee will consider issuing refunds for verified extenuating circumstances

I have been convicted of a felony, will this hurt my chances of being accepted?
Yes. You will not be selected to participate because you will not receive clearance to enter federal facilities.

Will I have spare time to sightsee?
Probably not. The schedule will be pretty busy, but a little bit of down time will be included.

What kind of course work can I expect?
Pre-trip readings, journaling, discussion, engaged participation

Where will we be staying?
In a residence hall at Catholic University of America

How will we get to Washington DC?
Each participant is responsible for arranging and paying for his/her own travel to DC. You must check in at Catholic University of America between 2pm and 5pm on July 21.

Do I have to travel to Washington DC with the group?
No. You will be responsible for making your own travel arrangements. If you wish, you may coordinate travel with other participants.

What do I need to bring?
A packing list will be provided at the pre-trip orientation

How will we travel around Washington DC?
Primarily by metro

What is included in the trip costs?
Housing, transportation during the trip, and admission fees to any tours

Yes, Application fee: $20, April 30 - $80, June 1 - $125, July 1 - $125

How much money will I need to bring with me?
Bring enough money for 10 meals and souvenirs
