Students assist local foster children

Students in the Sociology 262 course: Marriage and Family course do a variety of service projects designed to assist local foster children, through our partnership with The Baby Fold in Normal. In the process, they are exposed to issues pertaining to family break up and family dysfunction, and the role of the state and local organizations in being a safety net for vulnerable children.

Some of these students continue their service work well after the end of the semester. Several past students have realized a career interest or a personal interest in caring for or adopting foster children as a result of this project, which I've been doing in some form over the past 3 years.
