Students from Mennonite College of Nursing at Illinois State University help to make sure children at two Bloomington elementary schools have the state-mandated physical examinations they need to attend class.
Graduate family nurse practitioner students from Mennonite College of Nursing provided school physicals for Irving and Sheridan Elementary school students who still need them. Denise Wilson, a professor at Mennonite College of Nursing and a family nurse practitioner, will verify the accuracy of the exams and sign the required forms.
A grant of more than $1,900 from the McLean County Medical Society was used to purchase medical equipment, such as blood pressure kits, stethoscopes, and eye charts, which the nursing students will use to conduct the exams.
Mennonite College of Nursing has partnered with Irving Elementary in recent years to provide school children with a wide array of health education programs. The partnership benefits not only the elementary school children, but also the nursing students who gain valuable community service experience. Read more...
